You only have to take a ride on a roller coaster to see who gets more enjoyment out of the experience, those who clutch tight with white knuckles and clenched jaws or those who let go and allow themselves to be carried up and down without resistance.
When we come to the realization that holding on is something that is draining, and it hurts, there is a natural release of energy..a letting go..which always follows. (I usually reach this point when I am ready to say 'Enough Already'). We now find a sense of calm and inner peace, because we are not in conflict. This surrender restores our balance. And we are awake to our true essence.
This journey, or letting go, never ends. Never. It only begins -- over and over again -- every time we can glimpse at something higher; of life beyond the limits of our present sight of who we think we are.
A great way to help ourselves along is to allow ourselves the option that what happened to us five minutes ago is no longer of any importance because that was five minutes ago and this is now In reality, all we need to do is experience any situation whatever it may be and move on, immediately. This may include accepting the past even though you may not like it. If we are holding onto anything, we continue to hurt ourselves.
The sun doesn't resist its own setting - it lets go, knowing that it will rise once again. As we practice our own surrender of self, this (automatically) allows the dawning of life, filled with riches, that is awaiting us.
