When it shows each one of them in their over priced luxury vehicle, the narrator tells you the reason they chose the car. Like, they're insecure or trying to over-compensate for something else they lack. Then of course they show you the Volkswagen that's just right for anyone. While this commercial is more about image, the main issue it addresses is fuel efficiency. I have a mini van, and I would love to know how to increase it's fuel economy. The gas mileage isn't that bad but that said it would still great to increase it. They are pretty simple, when you are burning gasl, a large battery is charging, then the batter takes over and you save gas. That's it. In the past however the performance of these engines was so poor that nobody wanted them. All that has changed recently however and newer and better engines are being released all the time.
